This innovative one of a kind program operated from the roof of the Chula Vista Police Department roof top is the first police program in the US authorized for 911 response. From their perch on the station they respond to selected 911 calls with 1 mile and direct line of sight of their roof top, very often being the first on scene with an average response time of less than two minutes.
In operation since October 2018, they have already responded to over 320 calls within their working range. Their full response log, which is updated daily, can be viewed online and provides statistics on metrics such as response times, number of calls, type of call and number of arrests.
For their success thus far the California Police Chiefs Association awarded their drone program with the 2019 CPCA & Motorola Technology Innovation Award in recognition for their “superior achievement and innovation in the field of technology.”
